Tragic Rabbit - Mission Statement

“Rabbits on white paper painted

outgrow all charms against their breeding wild;

and their rolled corn ears become horns.

So watch out if the tragic life feels fine-

caught in that rabbit trap

all colors look like sunlight’s swords,

and scissors like The Living Lord.”

- Stan Rice, ‘Tragic Rabbit’, Some Lamb

In seeking to make itself beautiful, a thing can all too easy become wretched.

Feminine images habitually become a stereotype of a woman, a caricature, the painted face, a doll, a clown. However it is not just the ‘cannon of feminine taste’ that suffers this, quality is often confused with luxury, and opulence can buy out the need for cleverness.

Tragic Rabbit is a collection of six looks that dissects the staples of femininity with an austere blade. Pairing lace and latex, our inherited prejudices and a modern sensibility.

The collection aspires towards Boudicca’s hard-edged style and Margiela’s worked on fabrics and is aimed at a niche market, with a focus on bringing more affordable base fabrics to a unique appearance by time and effort, and witty combination, rather than monetary expense. It is situated at middle ready-to-wear, with a price tag that is still achievable by an entity who lives an absurd and extreme life.

Romantic and cold, luxurious and cheap, grotesque and picturesque.

Beauty can turn sour!
